This Christmas, Boxing Day, New Year and January promotional period is set to supercharge sales for online retailers. Therefore ensuring goods reach their new owners in perfect condition is vital in order to sustain good brand reputation and more importantly repeat business from consumers in the future.
For this reason we have devised 5 top tips to help you prepare your goods for shipment during this busy period and thereafter;
1. Choose the right type of boxes for the goods
There are many different types of boxes available such as gift boxes and gift boxes for presents, and all vary according to size, shape and material. If you know the value of your product and the quality of packaging it needs, you can use our simple box finder tool to find the perfect packaging for your item(s).
2. Size matters…when it comes to the types of boxes for shipping
Not only can goods move around boxes in transit, for example if they are in a box that’s too big without adequate packaging such as a large gift box for a small item. Reducing the size of the box can potentially reduce shipment costs, as well as the impact on the environment.
Check out our helpful measuring guide so you can choose the right size box for your goods.
3. One size doesn’t fit all
Sometimes a standard type of box such as decorative gift boxes with lids, aren’t suitable for certain items, therefore custom cardboard boxes are required. This is certainly something our team of packaging experts can help you with. Get in touch via phone, email or form to discuss your bespoke box requirements.
4. Be careful reusing old packaging
Despite corrugated boxes being strong, if they’ve been used time after time, their construction will deteriorate, meaning when you use them again they may not be fit for purpose and goods may reach the customer damaged, which wouldn’t be ideal for food hampers for example. What’s more, second-hand packaging may not give a good, professional image of your brand and may put off some consumers from buying from you in the future.
Check out our previous blog which highlights the differences between single wall boxes and double wall boxes which you may find useful when considering the strength of box you need for your item(s).
5. Label clearly
With online purchases going through the roof during the holidays, consumers are spending and want their goods as soon as possible. That’s why it’s important to fulfil orders as quickly as possible, ensuring the customer receives their goods, particularly if it’s a birthday gift box or present boxes and needed for a special occasion..
To eliminate any potential shipping problems, ensure all packages are clearly labelled whether that be hand-written on the box or by printed label. Position the postal address centrally on the box, making sure there’s no tape obstructing the address.
